To come to a realisation that even though we all look different, we all share something in common.

Italy being a very coastal laid back setting strongly contrasts with the dry strong Marward. Yet in my travels to these two locations I have found commonalities in architecture, colours, language dialects, and of course the strong sense of art and heritage. Seeing the arched windows in Positano was an instant recall to the Jaisalmer havelis. The opulent use of reds and flowers was an instant recall of Bikaner’s vibrant royalty. The vibrant life by the Italian lakes I find filled with tourists paints me a visual of Udaipur’s lakes. A language whose many words end with "o" brings back an emotion to hear back my mother tongue.

A collection designed to bring amalgamation of these two places and cultures. Shawls and embellishments inspired by Marward working in perfect balance with Italian suits and finish. The bandhgalas make a perfect blend of Marward silhouette with Italian fit.

On a bus in rural marward, I noticed something striking, and this is how I brought it to menswear - 1. Tribal Tattoos all over the neck and hands of women that symbolised true marward culture and art. The motifs all over the shawl are inspired from these tattoos. 2. Odnis; The idea for this shawl came from watching women make baby carriers from their odni - resourceful, rooted and real.

Every window that I noticed in Marward had their borders decorated with paintings and to me it felt like a decoration to a passage for those who chose to look beyond the surface, through the window and witness lives uniquely unfold. The border embroidery on this shawl is a decoration to the passage. The indigo dye is a representation of how one's life beyond surface is unpredictable with multiple layers, similar to the characteristics of Indigo.

Why I never used Bandhani in my designs while having a brand inspired from Marward. I needed a deeper meaning and an unique perspective that it finally made sense to use this craft for more that it just being a marward craft. Noticed the men of marward tying their safas and it resembled the same technique of how bandhani is made. Tying knots to shield the fabric (mind) from colour, noise, deception and manipulation. Added french knots to further represent the safas. Design with intention becomes an identity you proudly carry.

Asymmetry is not a flaw, its a philosophy and here’s how - Life doesn’t always offer balance. It tilts, it sways, it throws you off centre. And still the power lies in you, how you choose to stand - tall and unwavering. To stand firm in a tilted world - that in itself, is a statement. The marward man understands this and against all odds, rises above.

Amid Venice’s canals and quiet streets, a colour caught my eye, and its not blue. Indigo - There was calm and elegance in every shade of blue which I find in Akola, Rajasthan’s natural Indigo. Where calm meets form - this piece follows that same current. Minimal stripes. A relaxed silhouette. A self attached shoulder scarf that flows just enough. Crafted to feel like a breeze on the Amalfi coast. Designed to carry the depths and strengths of Indigo.

Shades of Pink everywhere, but why? - for beauty or for functionality? Younger desert women said - “It adds life, it makes the land beautiful.” Older and wiser desert women said - “It helps us find each other. A beacon of contrast in the mono-chromatic dessert. While fetching water one walks distances across the sand and it makes it easier to locate the one that gets lost along the way.” This pink may have different meanings, purposes but the end point is - its essential for a land like MARWARD.

GHUNGROLIO

INR. 19,509.00 /-

A plate of Aglio e Olio inspired the details of this look. The continuous clinking of my fork to the plate while struggling to pick up the last few strands of spaghetti, it reminded me of a familiar sound - the ghungroos women would wear in Marward. Also the visual of my plate inspired the Dabu white lines that represent the spaghetti and clusters of french knots represent the leftover bits of garlic on my plate.

This is how the sky became a canvas as well as a reflective inspiration for this look. The warm red stripes represent how the sky reflected off the vertical and symmetrically placed windows of the Bikaner haveli. Making the sky the reflective inspiration. The black stripes represent how the birds in the sky would leave a trial of their path when you blur your vision. This makes the sky a canvas. The sky here represents how one individual can play multiple roles in one's life. Sometimes the canvas, sometimes the reflection.

GADH-LEHER

My personal itch with a vintage wooden window. In souther Italy, I kept staring at old windows and doors - beautiful and withered....yet missing something. In MARWARD I found it. A woman’s saree flowing beside a similar door. The missing piece was movement, flow and grace. A double breasted blazer - firm like the door. A woollen shawl - soft like the saree. Structure meets softness. Stillness meets movement. Two cultures, one complete thought and finally the scratch to my itch.
